Divers Alert Network receives privileged information through our specialized telephone services and our relationships with medical and treatment facilities worldwide. All information received through these channels is considered confidential. Access to any information regarding an incident, injury or fatality is restricted to everyone for reasons of privacy. Information regarding an individual incident or case may be accessed only by a valid legal authorization (subpoena from N.C. District 14 or the Middle District, or signed and notarized Authorization for Release of Information) submitted to the DAN Custodian of Records and approved by the DAN legal counsel.

Confidentiality
All research projects are compliant with the confidentiality requirements of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Study records that identify you will be kept confidential as required by law. Federal privacy regulations provide safeguards for privacy, security and authorized access. Except when required by law, you will not be identified by name, social security number, address, telephone number or any other direct personal identifier in study records disclosed outside of DAN. For records disclosed outside of DAN, you will be assigned a unique code number, or the results will be presented in aggregate form with no individual identification.
Your records may be reviewed to meet federal or state regulations. Reviewers may include representatives of the sponsor funding the study, representatives from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and/or the Institutional Review Board.
