DOD SkillBridge

DAN is excited to announce a partnership with DOD SkillBridge. This program provides participants with the opportunity to develop professional skills, leading to career advancements in dive safety research. Originating from the successful DAN Internship Program established over 20 years ago, the SkillBridge program at DAN is designed offer valuable experiences to qualified candidates.

Successful applicants will work alongside a mentor at DAN Headquarters in Durham for 4-6 months, dedicating 40 hours a week to in-person activities. The position focuses on training participants to become Research Assistants in Diving Science. The broad goal of the program is to expand upon the participants’ existing diving experience and knowledge, applying it to research in physiology, population health, and accident investigation. Participants will learn to conduct high-quality research from the early idea stage to writing publications. The program aims to find a long-term fit for SkillBridge team members within DAN’s Research Department, another department in DAN, or a diving research-related field or organization. Participants will develop a deeper understanding of diving physiology, dive injury monitoring, and current global diving research efforts, while learning to prepare, plan, conduct, and communicate scientific experiments, taking responsibility for their own research projects.
