Safety Services Coordinator

FLSA: Exempt
Department: Safety Services

JOB SUMMARY

Support DAN’s safety programs including risk mitigation, training and education.

Provide support to education, outreach and safety development programs, including handling risk mitigation and training enquiries.

Monitor existing and new education programs including performing quality control, updates and additions.

Develop new training modules.

Engage with dive professionals, businesses, technical and training organizations.

A suitable candidate should be able to expand the department’s ability to work with a broad range of dive industry stakeholders and ensure the long-term sustainability of this dive safety-based function.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include the following, based on the candidate’s experience and abilities:

  • Diving accident prevention and preparedness programs including risk mitigation of dive operations.
  • Coordination and support on domestic and international basis of all DAN safety related initiatives and programs.
  • Responding to information and related communications on safety activities, including training systems, risk mitigation and operational diving related queries via email and phone.
  • Generating and reporting from data and surveys.
  • Production of written articles relating to safety in the diving industry.
  • Compiling newsletters and safety tools.
  • Represent Divers Alert Network including presentations of safety topics at various events – virtual and in-person – as assigned.
  • Teaching students in a range of safety-services programs.
  • Updating databases of service providers, training instructors, dive safety officers and recompression chambers through electronic and direct communication.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years in the diving industry
  • 3 years teaching experience
  • 5 years of full-time employment
  • Professional scuba diving rating in active status
  • Teaching qualifications in at least one of the following:
  • Scuba Instructor
  • DAN First Aid Instructor (or higher) or appropriate equivalent
  • Dive Safety Officer or Occupational Health and Safety Officer

EXPERIENCE

Background should include at least some of the following:

  • Field experience in first aid
  • Dive leading or dive shop operations
  • Public Safety Diving
  • Commercial Diving
  • Experience in, or exposure to diving safety functions, including related non-diving activities
  • Recompression chamber operations
  • Experience in diving-related activities other than recreational diving
  • Authored published articles in diving industry-related topics
  • Presentations on any of the above or related topics

Senior Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision perform a variety of complex accounting work including compiling, reconciling, and reporting financial data.  Ensure that financial data is recorded in accordance with GAAP and consistent with established policies and procedures.

RESPONSBILITIES

  • Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts monthly to ensure all transactions have been recorded and the reporting is accurate.
  • Analyze general ledger variances, complete commentary to give to upper management, and recommend corrections, as necessary.
  • Assist with monthly compilation of financial statements for utilization by Senior Management.
  • Coordinate and enter all accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue transactions for our foreign subsidiary.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly bank and credit card statements to the general ledger.
  • Assist with approving Accounts Payable invoices to ensure proper coding.
  • Cross train with other finance employees and assist with departmental procedures and internal control implementation.
  • Participate in companywide strategic initiatives.
  • Assist CFO with annual budget process, including templates and review of department budget details.

Write and edit articles and other content to inform and engage Divers Alert Network’s members and the diving public. Promote DAN and its programs, products and services via print and digital channels.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research and create original content including news articles, marketing materials, feature articles, blog posts, social media posts and more
  • Edit articles and posts for accuracy, clarity, consistency, style and grammar
  • Develop and manage an editorial calendar for submissions to external channels
  • Create relevant and timely content for internal and external publications; Adapt tone for a variety of audiences
  • Work with medical, research and insurance departments to ensure accuracy of information and compliance
  • Identify ways to better leverage content; Recommend/implement solutions that improve content management and workflow; Track performance and make recommendations for optimization

Medic I

JOB SUMMARY

Participate in the activities of Divers Alert Network involved in providing information services to laypeople, dive professionals, and healthcare professionals. 

The DAN Medic I supports DAN’s mission-critical work, responding to nonemergency inquiries and emergency calls from divers, healthcare professionals, and nondivers. The position also involves properly documenting all inquiries and detailed follow-ups for the compilation, verification, and consolidation of data, generally for in-house use in responding to requests for information, research and publication. There are also a variety of duties incidental to writing articles and social media posts, helping with referral database maintenance, and attending meetings essential for Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement as well as continuing education. A large part of the job requires substantial amounts of time discussing issues of safety and health for diving and travel over the telephone or by email during regular office hours as well as on scheduled days on weekends and after-hours shifts. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the activities of Divers Alert Network involved in developing, maintaining and compiling medical data and responding to inquiries relating to dive medicine information. 
  • Assist in the development of new methods and procedures for the response to Divers Alert Network inquiries to increase the effectiveness of services. 
  • Conduct and document follow-up interviews with injured divers and nondivers according to the most current department protocols. 
  • Assist in the compilation and distribution of dive injury reports for in-house use in responding to requests for information, research and publication. 
  • The medical services department often works irregular hours. Currently, regular department hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff work shifts range from the typical 8-hour day to 12-hour shifts on weekends. Other schedules may involve 10-hour shifts or partial-day shifts. On average, you will work 45-50 hours per week. You should be prepared for changes in the days of the week you work, the hours you work, and the length of the shifts. Staff must also be available on-call after hours (nights and weekends). Each of these will be subject to constant evaluation and adjustment as DAN builds out the Global Emergency Hotline. Work schedules and schedule changes are set by the Director, Medical Services, in consultation with DAN HR. 
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING 

  • High school diploma; college education is preferred 
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); advanced levels are preferred 
  • Recreational scuba diving certification; leadership levels are preferred 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three years of experience as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 
  • Customer service experience 
  • Dive medicine knowledge preferred 
  • Excellent medical documentation skills

Database Administrator

OCCPUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Customize, maintain and develop data solutions to meet the company needs, and work on building our proprietary software built on the .Net/MS SQL framework.

You will be required to understand the functionality of all existing data structure as well as independently develop new features and integrations into the existing platform.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recommend data solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Install revised or new database systems by proposing specifications; recommending ideal access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
  • Design, implement, and maintain high availability databases in accordance with end project’s needs and views
  • Define users, and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner
  • Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
  • Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
  • Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity

  • Familiarity with programming SSRS

  • BS degree in a computer discipline or relevant certification
  • Minimum 2+ years database administration in enterprise environments.
