DAN Services Insurance Agent 

FLSA: Non-Exempt, Full Time 
Department: Member Services

JOB SUMMARY 

For 40 years DAN has been the leader in scuba diving safety and has helped hundreds of thousands of divers manage emergencies. Our membership organization is seeking a full-time insurance agent to join our Member Services team. Reporting to the manager of Member Programs, this position will play a critical role in providing access to different insurance plans to meet the individual needs of DAN members. 

The ideal candidate will have scuba diving certification or experience. Working as part of a team, they should have professional telephone etiquette and strong interpersonal communication skills. Along with the ability to assist members by answering inquiries from incoming calls, voicemails and emails, the candidate will be able to work within deadlines and have good problem-solving skills. A key attribute is the ability to troubleshoot and provide support to members while providing a high level of customer service. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Answer incoming calls for a nonprofit membership association. 
  • Enroll and/or renew members, complete product orders, track member orders, and update member records. 
  • Accurately and clearly explain membership and insurance policy benefits.
  • Provide data-entry support for DAN membership, including entering new and renewal membership information, processing internet applications and product orders, and problem-solving/troubleshooting data-entry processing. 
  • Respond to daily incoming mail, fax and email correspondence.
  • Act as a liaison between internal departments.
  • Act as a liaison between the association, its members and the general public in support of the association’s mission and goals. 
  • Provide data for internal reports that track department and individual productivity. 
  • Represent the association at trade shows, conventions and symposiums as assigned. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Scuba diving certification/experience 
  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • Three or more years of providing customer service within a call center environment or other relevant customer service experience
  • Three or more years of working with confidential information and/or processing check, credit card and cash transactions
  • Previous insurance agency sales experience preferred
  • Membership database application — iMIS experience preferred
  • Good business-writing skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products

Medic I

JOB SUMMARY

Participate in the activities of Divers Alert Network involved in providing information services to laypeople, dive professionals, and healthcare professionals. 

The DAN Medic I supports DAN’s mission-critical work, responding to nonemergency inquiries and emergency calls from divers, healthcare professionals, and nondivers. The position also involves properly documenting all inquiries and detailed follow-ups for the compilation, verification, and consolidation of data, generally for in-house use in responding to requests for information, research and publication. There are also a variety of duties incidental to writing articles and social media posts, helping with referral database maintenance, and attending meetings essential for Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement as well as continuing education. A large part of the job requires substantial amounts of time discussing issues of safety and health for diving and travel over the telephone or by email during regular office hours as well as on scheduled days on weekends and after-hours shifts. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the activities of Divers Alert Network involved in developing, maintaining and compiling medical data and responding to inquiries relating to dive medicine information. 
  • Assist in the development of new methods and procedures for the response to Divers Alert Network inquiries to increase the effectiveness of services. 
  • Conduct and document follow-up interviews with injured divers and nondivers according to the most current department protocols. 
  • Assist in the compilation and distribution of dive injury reports for in-house use in responding to requests for information, research and publication. 
  • The medical services department often works irregular hours. Currently, regular department hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Staff work shifts range from the typical 8-hour day to 12-hour shifts on weekends. Other schedules may involve 10-hour shifts or partial-day shifts. On average, you will work 45-50 hours per week. You should be prepared for changes in the days of the week you work, the hours you work, and the length of the shifts. Staff must also be available on-call after hours (nights and weekends). Each of these will be subject to constant evaluation and adjustment as DAN builds out the Global Emergency Hotline. Work schedules and schedule changes are set by the Director, Medical Services, in consultation with DAN HR. 
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING 

  • High school diploma; college education is preferred 
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT); advanced levels are preferred 
  • Recreational scuba diving certification; leadership levels are preferred 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three years of experience as Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) 
  • Customer service experience 
  • Dive medicine knowledge preferred 
  • Excellent medical documentation skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills 
  • Intermediate computer skills in:

Database Administrator

FLSA: Exempt, Full Time

OCCPUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Customize, maintain and develop data solutions to meet the company needs, and work on building our proprietary software built on the .Net/MS SQL framework.

You will be required to understand the functionality of all existing data structure as well as independently develop new features and integrations into the existing platform.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recommend data solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Install revised or new database systems by proposing specifications; recommending ideal access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.
  • Design, implement, and maintain high availability databases in accordance with end project’s needs and views
  • Define users, and enable data distribution to the right user, in appropriate format and in a timely manner
  • Maintain database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.
  • Use high-speed transaction recovery techniques and backup data
  • Minimize database downtime and manage parameters to provide fast query responses
  • Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users
  • Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards
  • Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
  • Develop reports based on end users’ needs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven working experience as a MSSQL 2000 and higher Database administrator
  • Excellent knowledge with relational database design, documentation and coding
  • Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity and SQL
  • Previous experience with DBA case tools (frontend/backend) and third-party tools
  • Familiarity with programming SSRS
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports
  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics a plus.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to think algorithmically
  • BS degree in a computer discipline or relevant certification
  • Minimum 2+ years database administration in enterprise environments.
  • Relevant IT qualifications (bachelor’s degree preferred).
