5 Reasons To Encourage Your Divers To Join DAN

5. Dive businesses earn $10 for every new DAN member they refer.

In 2024, Divers Alert Network (DAN) doubled the referral reward for dive businesses that refer new members — from US$5 per member to US$10. Custom links and banners make it easy to earn these rewards — simply go here to create your business’s custom link and choose from the available digital banners. Use the banner ads with your custom link on your website, emails, newsletters, and social media to start earning.

4. DAN Student Membership is free to your students and free to you.

DAN Student Membership provides up to US$25,000 in Student Dive Accident Insurance1 for covered diving accidents that occur during entry-level training. This includes entry-level breath-hold dive training as well as scuba, and the coverage is valid until completion of the last certifying dive or up to 26 weeks after enrollment, whichever comes first.

Not only is this program free of charge to both the diver and the dive professional, it may even prevent claims against your professional liability insurance by providing coverage for certain injuries that occur during entry-level training.

3. DAN members have access to an emergency medical transportation benefit to help them get to a recompression chamber if necessary.

While it’s true that DAN provides assistance to any diver who calls (regardless of whether that diver is a member) only members have access to DAN’s emergency medical transportation benefit. This benefit is essential for any traveling divers because in the event of an injury they may need transport to a recompression chamber facility. The costs and complexity of arranging emergency medical transportation can be shocking, so it’s important that every diver has ready access to a chamber should the need arise. Remember that anyone can get decompression sickness — the vast majority of divers who get DCS were diving within their computer’s no-decompression limit. DAN members receive up to US$500,000 in Emergency Medical Transportation & Travel Assistance Benefits2 for covered diving and nondiving medical emergencies any time they travel more than 50 miles from home.

2. The costs of a dive injury can be extraordinary, and no diver should risk having to pay these costs out of pocket.

Only DAN members have access to purchase DAN dive accident insurance3, which offers divers up to US$500,000 in insurance protection against the costs of covered dive injuries. This is crucial, as dive injuries are often left uncovered by typical health insurance. Plans are recognized worldwide, and some cover nondiving as well as diving accidents and injuries. Don’t let your students and divers risk having to pay for recompression chamber treatment themselves.

1. DAN is a dive safety organization; its profits are reinvested in safety programs for the benefit of divers everywhere.

DAN, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1980 to help divers in need of emergency medical assistance. The organization works to promote dive safety through research and education. Thanks to its members, DAN has reinvested over $100 million in initiatives that benefit the global community of divers, including:
