Lung Squeeze Survey

Divers Alert Network (DAN) and University of California San Diego (UCSD) are sponsoring a survey that will collect data from breath-hold divers regarding their experience(s) with lung injuries while training or diving. You qualify for participation in this study if you are a breath-hold diver and you have experienced a lung injury (commonly referred to as a “squeeze”).

The goal of this research is to find patterns in the circumstances in which squeezes occur. Based on the findings of this survey we hope to create best practice guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of squeezes as well as return-to-dive recommendations following squeezes.

The study is sponsored by DAN and UCSD and was developed in collaboration with Oliver Christen-Drew, Juani Valdivia, Vitomir Maricic, Robert King, Fernando Silva, Elaine Yu, Frauke Tillmans, and Peter Lindholm.

Please complete the survey, which should take 15-30 minutes.
