Continuing Education for Dive Professionals

Many professional and occupational fields — such as medicine, engineering, accounting, and insurance — require continuing education to maintain a current certification. There are plenty of opportunities for dive professionals to develop and maintain their skills but almost no requirements for remaining current in their areas of expertise. Divers Alert Network recognized this gap, especially where updated knowledge is essential to teach and practice safely, and has developed a Continuing Education for the Dive Professional program.

DAN offers liability insurance to the dive industry to provide some degree of protection for dive professionals, which has given us a firsthand understanding of the most common incidents, accidents, lawsuits, and complaints. This knowledge, combined with DAN’s mission to reduce injuries and incidents, gives DAN a unique perspective to make a difference in the industry. This new initiative, which uses our existing training platform, drives real change for dive professionals.

The first course in the Continuing Education for the Dive Professional program launched in May 2024. More than 2,500 dive professionals signed up and completed the course within the first month. The program will continue to expand and make a difference in dive safety.
